Services

Psychological Consultation Services is a Toronto based private practice offering assessment, diagnosis, treatment and consultation for adults in Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador.  

Assessment

Individualized psychological assessments evaluate psychological functioning which includes thoughts, emotions and behaviours. These assessments help to inform diagnosis, treatment and management of psychological disorders.

Specialization in forensic assessment to inform court ordered evaluations of criminal responsibility, fitness for trial and risk of recidivism.

Assessment appointments vary in length and usually include an initial introductory session, a comprehensive testing session and a clinical interview conducted over one or more follow up appointments.

Treatment

Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a general term to describe the process by which a mental health professional and client work together to improve and maintain mental health and well-being.

What is offered: individualized and evidence based treatment to address mood, motivation, trauma and symptoms of major mental illness.

Modalities drawn from include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT).

Consultation

Even the most experienced officers and front line responders are at risk of profound emotional and psychological complications from trauma exposure. The ability to cope is personal.

Psychological consultation consists of the provision of organizational wellness workshops, trauma informed crisis management, supportive counselling, fitness for duty and wellness assessments for law enforcement officers and front line | emergency responders.

Why would I need an Assessment?

Psychological assessments provide invaluable information for the purpose of making a diagnosis or treatment recommendations. Psychologists assess diverse psychiatric problems as well as non-psychiatric concerns (i.e. intelligence, achievement, personality). 

Signs and symptoms that, when present, indicate that an assessment may be warranted include increased anxiety, changes in mood, changes in sleeping patterns, social withdrawal, difficulty concentrating, impaired memory, lack of interest in activities you once enjoyed or trouble performing tasks.

When is Therapy Appropriate?

Are you experiencing distressing emotions, thoughts or behaviours? Therapy can provide a framework in which to learn and practice new ways of expressing emotion, reframing negative thoughts and changing problematic behaviour.

Some reasons to consider therapy: you have difficulty regulating emotions, are struggling to perform at work or school, have trouble building or maintaining relationships, you’ve experienced trauma, struggle with grief, use substances to cope or want to make changes in your life.
